2FA — two-factor authentication — means proving your identity with two different kinds of evidence instead of just a password. Typically that’s something you know (your password) plus something you have (a code from your phone) or something you are (your fingerprint). Even if an attacker steals your password, 2FA stops them getting in without that second factor — which is why it’s one of the single most effective security steps you can take.

Malware — short for “malicious software” — is any program written to damage, disrupt, or gain unauthorised access to a device or network. It’s the umbrella term for viruses, worms, trojans, ransomware, spyware, and more. Understanding the main types, how infections show up, and how to remove and prevent them is one of the most useful foundations in personal cybersecurity.

Here’s how to choose — and when to combine them.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the broad goal of making machines act intelligently; machine learning (ML) is one specific method for achieving it — letting software learn patterns from data instead of being explicitly programmed. In other words, all machine learning is AI, but not all AI is machine learning. Once you see how the terms nest inside one another, the buzzwords — deep learning, neural networks, generative AI, LLMs — fall neatly into place.
